About This Journey

Spend seven days in Malinalco during Día de los Muertos, where ancient temples, colonial churches, ceremony, food, and the living rhythm of the town all meet. This retreat is for people who want to experience the tradition with those who genuinely live it — not as a performance for tourists, but as a week of ritual, reflection, beauty, and connection to place.

Anchored by a traditional temazcal and a sacred cactus ceremony, the week moves between sacred sites, local traditions, rest, and candlelit ritual in town. It is immersive, intimate, and intentionally paced — designed to let the experience sink in rather than rush past it.

What to Expect

This trip blends ritual, culture, rest, and local tradition.

You’ll settle into Casa Huitzi and ease into the energy of Malinalco through ceremony, local food, sacred sites, and time in town during Día de los Muertos. The rhythm is immersive without feeling overprogrammed.

Midweek, the pace softens around the sacred cactus ceremony and temazcal, with dedicated space for preparation, rest, and integration. By the end of the retreat, the experience moves toward local ritual, candlelit streets, and a deeper connection to the land, the people, and the tradition.

ACCOMMODATIONS

Casa Huitzi

Casa Huitzi is our home base for the week — the place where we’ll rest, share meals, and return to between ceremonies and experiences in town. It has real character, feels distinctly Mexican, and holds the retreat in a way that feels grounded, intimate, and connected to the spirit of Malinalco. With the temazcal on the grounds, the experience begins and returns here throughout the week.

Travel

Travel Logistics

Airport

Arrive to Mexico City airport (MEX)on October 28 and depart on November 3. Final recommended flight windows will be shared before the retreat so airport transfers and arrival flow stay smooth.

Transportation

Transportation

Once you arrive in Mexico, all retreat transportation is included — including your pickup, return transfer, and transportation throughout the retreat. Flights to and from Mexico are not included.

Physical level

Light to moderate. Expect cobblestone streets, some stairs, time outdoors, temazcal heat, late-night ceremony flow, and a rhythm that includes both rest and movement. No extreme trekking, but this is not a resort-style lounge week either.

Flexibility

The core flow of the retreat is set, but some timing may shift slightly depending on ceremony flow, weather, and the rhythm of Día de los Muertos in town. The intention is always to protect the experience, not to rush it.

Your guide

Meet Rocio

Rocío is a Mexican native of Toltec lineage with more than 30 years in temazcal and ceremonial practice, carrying teachings passed directly from the elders who trained her. She leads from lived experience, not performance - and because of who she is, doors open that remain closed to most. This gives our guests access to sacred places and people that are never part of tourism - not the version built for visitors, but the one protected by trust built over generations.

Decision

Is This Retreat For You?

This trip is probably not ideal if:

  • You're looking for an all-inclusive resort, room service, and poolside cocktails every day.

  • You want every moment to feel highly controlled, predictable, and separate from local reality.

  • You strongly dislike shared ritual spaces, simple accommodations, heat, late-night ceremony flow, or the slower pace of true integration.

You'll likely feel at home if:

  • You want to experience Día de los Muertos with people who actually live it, not consume a tourist performance of it.

  • You’re drawn to sacred medicine, temazcal, ancient sites, and the meeting point of Indigenous and Catholic tradition.

  • You’re okay trading luxury amenities for intimacy, meaning, depth, and a real connection to place.
